So what are the initial thoughts. I think I am going to have to see it on the ice before I comment.

Curbed Season 8

This picture hangs on the wall at the St. Boniface hospital and it totally reminded me to start downloading Season 8. That is Larry David…isn’t it?

Bosak Beach

Had a great day out at St. Malo with Lexi today. Usually when we head over to the Bosak’s place Lexi is content with just the swings. But today was hot so I knew I had to get this girl to the beach.

Lexi Lou

After a few swings we decided to head out on a tube run. Lexi was a little skeptical at first because the last time she went there was a little incident involving some dead fall and Lexi and Shannon ended up flipping over and hanging from a tree. A bit scary for them both I think. Today I was super impressed that she got right back on that chair and didn’t make a peep on the whole run. It was great to see her overcome that fear.

We spent the rest of the day at the beach. Shan picked up a little ring for Lexi to float around in and it was perfect for her. She was in the water more today than the last 4 beach trips combined. By the end of the day we had one tired, sun drained little trooper. She fell asleep before the van was out of the parking lot.

Speedy Auto Glass

When Lexi was just over a year old I locked her in the van in a parking lot. It’s a long story and I am told it happens to everyone so you can put down the phone to CFS. When it happened I panicked immediately and my first thoughts went to smashing the passenger side window like Bruce Willis in an action movie. The problem was I didn’t have the butt end of a hand gun and those windows are a lot more durable than they look.

Lexi wasn’t in her seat because we were planning on having a snack in the car before heading home. She ended up walking to the back of the van to pull everything out of the storage compartments. In doing so she dropped the keys on the floor in the back of the van. At that point I grabbed on to the rear vent window and popped it free from the motor bracket intending to crawl through it but instead managed to coax Lexi into passing me the keys.

The window hung there for over a year held closed with a bungee cord. I never used those windows anyway so it was no big deal as long as it wasn’t flapping around while driving. Eventually though the pull from the bungee cord pulled the glue from the hinges and the window just plain fell out! Of course this happened three hours away at the lake so I had to tape it up and drive it home like that (thanks for the GTape Mike).

When I got home I called my friend Miguel at Speedy Auto Glass 2140 McPhillips. He was able to order me a new window and install it the next day for under $100. He did this on his own time to save me some cash but I wanted to make sure I thanked him here and also plug his business. So if you have any auto glass needs please call Miguel at Speedy 204-694-2371. They are great people over there and they do great work!

Tragically Hip, Shaw Park

Hip last night was awesome.

Tragically Hip

The celebration actually started on Tuesday when I found out Ratte was flying in early so that he could come out to the Narrows for a couple of days. We spent a couple of days on the water and then drove back in yesterday specifically for the concert. We hooked up pre-game with Al and Larissa at Earls on Main for a little pre-game so that we could walk over to the park after dinner.

Uncle Ralph called me a couple weeks before the concert and started our conversation with “have you got your Hip tickets yet”. I actually did (thanks to Al), but when answering such a question it was important for me consider the question. Uncle Ralph picked up some seats in the Free Press Suite and wanted to know if I wanted them. Hells yes.

My beautiful wife graciously gave up her ticket when she found out Paul was coming in (reason #4567) so I offered mine up to Jordan and his Mom so it all worked out really well. The suite seats were awesome. No beer lines and the food was delivered right to your seat. Ratte and I were in our glory. It was nice to hang out with Uncle Ralph and Aunt Nancy and just a couple suites down we hung out with Timmy G and Russ Romaniuk. I made the mistake of asking Russ what he thought of the Jets coming back and we missed a couple of songs! It was cool to meet him again because I really liked him as a player (with the Jets circa NHL94). He’s a class act fersure.

Of course the concert was amazing. The Hip could come every year and play a different set. Gord was his animated self and served up a satisfying mix of classics and new material. My personal favorite was New Orleans/Nautical all wrapped up in one.

Back to the lake this morning to see my girls.

Just because a bunch of other people are moving in the same direction, it doesn’t mean that any of them have any idea where they’re going, and just because they’re following one person, it doesn’t make him or her the leader. A lot of people are just plain fucking scared of the dark, and they’ll follow anyone that’s holding a flashlight.”
