Soul Searching

On Wednesday last week I had to take the truck in for a new windshield. Of course I went to see Miguel at Speedy Auto Glass on McPhillips (shameless plug). He set me up with a rental for the day. A crappy little Chevy Cobalt that was about as fun to drive as peeling the skin off a garlic sausage. It’s this kind of judgment that made me wonder just how spoiled I have become. We get used to a certain standard of living. So much in fact that I can complain about my free rental car on a Wednesday even though I had no place I needed to be.

It occurred to me for 30 seconds that some people don’t have cars at all. There was also a time in my life when I would have driven a car with a cracked windshield for years at a time before getting it replaced. Stupid Cobalt brought on all kinds of emotions so I drove that crappy rental car straight to the new “Hockey Life” store on St. James and took a few shots on their net with a hockey stick I could never afford.

After that I met Tyler at the movies and this is where I can give back and save you $10 and an hour and half of your life that you will never get back. Steer clear of “The Other Guys”. One of the worst ever. Tyler woke me up at the end of that doozie and when I got back into that lousy Cobalt I realized that I just spent another $10 to sleep at the movies. Sad part is it was one of the best mouth open sleeps I have had in a long time.

It’s hard to admit that I had a nap in the theater on a Wednesday afternoon, even though I was waiting for the truck to be fixed. When you are looking for a job their is an air of guilt that you carry with you until you rejoin the working herd. It’s more stressful than going to work. Everyone looks at you like a one-eared goat if your not working class. Specially when you are paying an upwards of $600/month for daycare. No pressure.
