Summer, Summer, Summertime…

And in the words of the Fresh Prince himself, “tru dat, uh huh, uh huh – uh huh uh huh”.

I have no idea what inspired that but I am thinking it has something to do with freshly cut grass and intense heat. I checked my iPhone weather at 9am this morning and it was +21 already. At breakfast I was thinking of how to explain to Lexi that we had to stay in today…where it is cool and the air conditioner is our best friend. So far we have washed the dog in the garage, watched videos in the cold basement, and made cookies. Best day ever.

The summer has been good to us and despite my subtle hatred of the heat and the sound of swarming mosquitoes, dare I say I can’t complain? Ok, I can always complain but for the most part the summer has been awesome.

Shan took on a course at the beginning of her holidays so that pushed us into almost August. Last year we didn’t get out camping at all as a family so this year we were doing everything we could to get out. It started with a weekend at Otter Falls, the usual Great Woods Park weekend, and our annual dose of Sioux Narrows. Time flew because we basically camped somewhere new each week for three weeks. Lexi made it so easy. She is becoming such a little lake girl and we just love it.

The week we got back from the Narrows we had just a couple of days before Shan left for Toronto for John and Tina’s wedding. It was right on my birthday weekend (Friday the 13th) and Ratte was in town so I pretty much took advantage of having no responsibilities. I spent as much time with Paul and the boys as I could. Friday we dropped the family off at the airport and then went to Blondies for dinner. That night we went to “The Expendables” and ended up getting home after at about 2am. Saturday I slept in and then we went to see my man Garth at the Palatal. We found out that it was closing that weekend so we made sure to take advantage of our last supper. We played some cards after dinner at Joel’s and I think I got home about 3am that night.

Sunday night I just took it easy and played vids. I picked up “Batman Arkham Asylum” for the PS3. I was planning an early evening but I just could not put this game down. I was up until 330am and I could have kept going. Pick this one up gamers, it is wicked. I am still not finished it.

Monday – Al, Tyler, my Mom and I went to see “Knight and Day”. A good light action flick with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. We all liked it. There is some good laugh out loud parts fersure.

Tuesday I went and picked up the girls at the airport. This is the longest I have ever been away from Lexi and I was really missing her. When they came out of the elevator and I saw the big smile on Lexi’s face I wanted to just run over there and scoop her up. She seemed so different after only days it made me realize how much she is changing each and every day. It was also nice to miss Shan. You need that time apart sometimes to realize how much you miss each other.

We are getting back into work mode now. I have been putting out some resumes and Shannon is starting to think about school and her kids this year. We have found full time daycare for Lexi in September and we are working on her naps and bedtime to get her on track.

Time is moving so fast right now.

Craw Daddy

Mike said if I caught one, he would eat it. Well I caught one alright, and he sure did eat it.

Black Hawk Down

As I was mowing the lawn tonight I couldn’t help but wonder how many little frog families I destroyed. I would like to have thought that my frog killing days were behind me. You get to a certain age in your life that animal torture of any kind leaves an impact on you. Unlike when you are a kid you start to visualize what you are doing from the frogs point of view. I think death by lawnmower for frogs is like death by helicopter for us. I could hear them as they dove into the long grass for cover “BLACK HAWK DOWN, BLACK HAWK DOWN”. Except jumping into the long grass might not have been their best tactical move against the lawnmower.

That being said I also ran over a big moth and thought to myself – “that’s OK those suckers eat clothes”. Frogs never hurt nobody.
